Timeless Wedding Makeup Looks for Every Season

Welcome, 2024 brides! If this is your wedding year, CONGRATULATIONS! It's less than 365 days away...

As we enter a new year, I wanted to write about different makeup looks inspired by different seasons. Of course, if your wedding is not encorporating the traditional colours of the season that your wedding is being held in, then feel free to ignore all of the advice in this blog post [hehe].

I've grouped the seasons together in pairs because, in my opinion, the colours can be very similar, but it really all depends on the person wearing them. It's how you feel the most confident and powerful.

Autumn/ Winter

I always bring myself back to this beautiful styled shoot I worked on a few years ago at The Cherry Barn in Kent.

Burgandy, burnt orange and deep greens were throughout the shoot (linked above if you want to see more pictures!) which a key influence in the makeup. I wanted to keep the eyes fairly strong as well as doing a darker lip to challenge the traditional light and aetherial wedding makeup that you see more in the spring and summer.

As the models all have very different skin tones, it was so fun to create looks that suited them as well as fit the brief and was able to show different skills. The way is all came together was absoultey beautiful. The photographer, Lucie, had amazing vision for this shoot and kept it moody and illustious which pulled the whole thing together elegantly.

Key features of Autumn/ Winter wedding makeup

  • Burgandy, burnt orange, red colours.

  • Bold lips, but the colour shouldn't take over the whole face

  • Shimmer on the center of the eyelid and inner corner to contrast the darker colours in the crease and upper lid area

  • Contour/ bronze sould compliment but not over power the rest of the face

  • Focus should be on eyes and lips

Spring/ Summer

For most people in the wedding industry, wedding season runs from May to September which is why I find it easier to group these two seasons together. The colours are very similar but I find it changes from the cool sunny to the hot sunny weather which can change the makeup look a lot!

A couple of looks I've done over the years spring to mind [if you pardon the pun]. Ruchika (left) and Katy (right) have very different skin types, tones and also different briefs!

Ruchika wanted something to make her eyes pop and also to make sure she didn't get lost in the sparkly detail of her wedding outfit, staying true to her cultural traditions. We made this reality by doing a softer neautral eye look with that burst of shimmer on the eye lids. Keeping the eyeliner a faint blend along the lash line which softened and completed the eye look. We went for a pinky matte lip to bring out the natural hue of her lips.

Katy's look focused more on flawless skin with seemless blush and slight contour [she didn't need much - I mean, look at that jaw line!] For eyes, it was more of a neutral matte with a light taupe in the crease and a blended out dark brown lash line which I made sharper at the bottom by using a cotton bud, but left the top soft. This melted into the upper eye lid beautifully. For lips, we also kept this matte using Beaty Bay lipstick in the shade Tea (a personal wedding makeup favourite for me!)

Key features of Spring/ Summer wedding makeup

  • Neutral colour pallette, mixing matte and shimmer

  • Focus on flawless skin

  • Peachy toned lips curated to compliment the wearer's skin tone and natural lip colour
